Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 30, 2026

This policy describes the current Cedar app and avoids privacy or security guarantees the product cannot verify.

Information Cedar handles

Cedar handles information you provide, including account details, website waitlist email, profile information, goals, messages, journal entries, nutrition and workout records, uploaded images or documents, preferences, purchases, and support requests.

Benefit features handle insurance coverage, benefit limits, amounts used, visit costs, and reimbursements you provide. This financial information can be linked to your account and included in benefit tracking or requested coaching context. Existing cloud records and optional cloud AI processing mean benefit information is not always kept only on your device.

If you grant Apple Health permission, Cedar can read the categories you select. Features that log workouts, mindfulness, water, or nutrition may write those records to Apple Health when you grant write permission.

If you grant location permission, Cedar uses precise location while the app is in use for outdoor workout and weather-aware features. Purchase and subscription status can be linked to your Cedar account so paid features and restores work across sessions.

Cedar also receives technical information needed to operate and protect the service, such as account and device identifiers, network metadata, notification tokens, and server operational diagnostics.

How information is used

Cedar uses information to authenticate you, sync your account, show history, provide requested wellness features, generate coaching and plans, operate connected services, deliver notifications, provide support, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and improve reliability.

Health and fitness information is used for health and fitness functionality and personalization. Cedar does not use Apple Health data for advertising or sell Apple Health data.

Cloud and AI processing

Cedar is not entirely on device. Account content and selected wellness information can be stored or processed by Cedar cloud services.

Cloud AI coaching is optional and starts only after you accept the in-app disclosure. When enabled, Cedar sends your message, recent conversation context, and wellness information relevant to the request to Cedar backend services and third-party AI providers. Current routes can include Google Cloud Vertex AI and, depending on the feature and service configuration, OpenRouter and its model providers. This information is not guaranteed to be anonymous, and processing can occur outside your province or country.

Turning cloud AI off blocks new AI coaching requests. It does not delete information already stored in your Cedar account.

Service providers

Cedar uses service providers to operate the app. These can include Apple services; Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, databases, storage, messaging, server diagnostics, hosting, and AI processing; OpenRouter and its model providers for AI processing; and authorized music or subscription services when you choose those features.

Provider handling depends on the applicable service configuration and terms. Cedar does not promise zero retention, processing in one country, or that every cloud record is end-to-end encrypted.

Storage, security, and retention

Cedar uses platform and provider controls such as encrypted network connections, authenticated access, iOS data protection, and access controls. No service can promise absolute security.

Account and service content is generally retained while your account is active or while needed to provide a feature. When account deletion completes, Cedar requests deletion of the active account and associated application data. Limited copies may remain temporarily in provider backups, security or fraud records, or records required by law.

During deletion, Cedar may temporarily retain an account identifier and timestamps to block delayed uploads. This guard is removed after data removal and account deletion are verified and existing sign-in tokens have expired.

App analytics and diagnostics

The current Cedar iOS app disables Firebase Analytics event collection and Crashlytics crash reporting. Cedar servers still process technical request and operational information needed to run and protect the service.

Disabling these app SDKs does not make Cedar entirely on device or prevent the account, notification, or optional cloud AI processing described in this policy.

Your controls and contact

You can manage Apple Health and notification permissions in iOS, change preferences in Cedar, disable cloud AI in You > Coach preferences, and initiate account deletion in You > Account & Security. Deleting Cedar does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription.

Wellness and children

Cedar provides general wellness information, not medical diagnosis, treatment, emergency monitoring, or professional medical advice. Do not rely on Cedar for an emergency.

Cedar is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact privacy@cedarcoach.com.
